Ruins of Detroit

Detroit has been making news since they became the largest city to ever declare bankruptcy in the United States. Yves Marchand & Romaine Meffree photography started this project back in 2005 called The Ruins of Detroit. Looking at these pictures it is easy to imagine Detroit at its height in the 1950s. It pains me to see such beautiful Art Deco buildings reduced to ruins! The images are both haunting and post-apocalyptic--as if everyone just picked up their stuff in the '50s and left...

Juicy Couture Spring 2013

Every season I like to pick a style direction---usually a fashion collection, promo pics or a movie that toes the line between current trends and retro styles. Anachronistic style is all about mixing the current with classic retro which is why I find this promo video from Juicy Couture so inspiring. This spring I will be all about 60s glamour with some Hollywood edge, one part spoiled rich girl and one part beach-y car-show greaser. Since I'll be heading to L.A on a business trip next month I can't imagine anything more appropriate! I will be pulling out my pastel colors, hotel-wallpaper-inspired prints, polka dots, and cropped everything for a Mod yet nautical capsule collection to get me through my business trip in style!

Etsy Find: Rococo Vintage

My current favorite Etsy shop is Rococo Vintage. All the dresses are beautifully photographed and carefully curated, I love zooming in on the details on some of the best 1950s dresses I've ever seen. Every piece listed is worth scrutinizing and I like to check back often for new listings. Below is a few delicacies in the current selection but I definitely recommend favorite-ing this delicious little shop.

A Pastel Dream: Let Them Eat Lace!

It's no secret that pastels are having their day in the sun thanks to designers like Louis Vuitton's pastel carousel and Prada's retro-riffic video. This photo shoot called "Let Them Eat Lace!" embodies all the trends of the season with a strong dose of rococo flavor thrown in. Here are a few of my favorites by photographer Nicole Patricia Malina but you can see the full photo set HERE!

Dita Von Teese: How She Became the Most Famous Stripper in America

LA Weekly did an amazing interview and photo-shoot of my favorite ambassador of glamour. Read the interview by Gendy Alimurung here! The fabulous technicolor photo set is by Star Foreman.

The interview gives us a peek into the very little-known parts of her career, when her persona was in it's infancy.

"There is a difference, Dita Von Teese has learned, between getting naked onstage and "in real life." Onstage she controls everything: From the lights illuminating her pale breasts, to the layers of body makeup smoothing over her thighs, to the Swarovski crystal and feathers, many "special tricks" go into creating the illusion of otherworldly perfection."

Do you know the one rule of burlesque? No pink. That's how you keep it classy.

"I'm probably overcoming my feelings of being very average-looking. Which made me want to create glamour and paint myself and do my makeup and hair well, and become something that I wasn't originally."

Victorian Photo Dump

Mr. Anachronistic Style is a photographer and can't resist bins of old photos when we go antique shopping. I want to share proper scans of the photos we bought last month in Delaware, OH. I love how dapper everyone looks! That corseted waist, those sleeves, that ermine stole, that cane! I delight in every detail!

Prada Spring/Summer 2012

This video is like a Spring mood board come alive. I love how the advertisement clearly ties the inspirations to the final products so you can see the seeds that started the design process. This video strengthened my goal of getting into pastels this Spring and I will not be happy until someone makes a knock-off of those hot rod shoes (Steve Madden, I'm looking at you.) I love those barrettes the women are wearing, I'll have to look into those. I will be a lady that deserves to be at that gas station!

This Editorial is titled "More More More!" and that's about all I know. A little dowager chic, cotton candy-colored hair, and the artful reveal of lingerie are the unifying themes of this shoot, I just wish I knew more about it.

A Love Affair with Ana Antunes

I'm such a sucker for whitewashed interiors with a touch of color. I love the full-on glamour of this personal space designed by Ana Antunes. The soothing palette of lavender and aqua is enlivened with dashes of lime green. Modern furniture mixed with romantic flourishes (that chandelier! that aqua rococo chair!) create a feminine yet relaxed setting. Check out Ana's blog and start your own love affair with this woman!

Tattler Russia's Ice Princess

Winter in Ohio kicks off after Christmas, our Indian summer frosts into full-blown winter with blizzards and ice storms. I love the changing of the seasons and winter holds a special place in my heart as the season of cozy cashmere, fur (faux please!), dazzling sequins, bright tights and cool winter coats. This editorial celebrates my favorite parts of winter with a strong 1920s vibe. I can't get over the liberal use of fur and gypsy accents that makes me anxious to get into the snowy part of winter. I can just see myself scraping the frost off of my car in one of these glamorous looks from Russia's Tattler magazine.
